The 2020 Independent Parliamentary candidate in the Bekwai Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Lawyer Kwasi Amofa-Agyemang , has stated his intention to contest the 2024 NPP primaries with the other aapirants if the party prepares a new party album of delegates or correct the defects with the current album.
According to Lawyer Amofa , in 2021, soon after the elections the NPP Constituency Executives in the Bekwai Constituency removed over 400 polling station executives who were alleged to have supported him in the general elections , and afterwards placed their family members, friends and cronies to replace them in the album without holding any elections at the polling stationd to select the polling station executives.
“I am a proud NPP member and would like to contest in the primaries any day, but I am unable to do so at the moment because of the defects with the current delegates album. No one should be taken advantage of or created when it comes to conducting elections, hence there must be a fair playing field for all aspirants. The NPP national leadership have received my petitions on this issue at hands but I have not received any official response from them yet. I’ll not contest in the primaries if the party doesn’t resolve or correct the defects with the current album.
For instance the polling station chairman of the only polling station in my hometown, Asokore, in the Constituency originates from another town called Kokotro. He is not a registerd voter at the polling station, neither does he hall from Askokore, yet he is the NPP polling station chairman at Asokore. So how can I trust this album if I want to contest in these primaries? He querried.
He said this in an interview with Dess FM Morning Show host , Akwasi Awuah which was also monitored by ASP Sampene when Lawyer Amofa paid a visit to the Bekwai Electoral Commission district office to observe the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.
He urged the constituents in Bekwai to remain calm, as he is keeping an eye on developments in the Bekwai constituency and will make his declaration in due course.
