A well-known sports journalist Kankam Boadu has recently expressed his opposition to the 10% tax on sports betting, claiming that Ghanaian youth are not lazy but that politicians are more lazy than the youth.
In an interview with Pure Fm Morning Show host Kwame Adinkra , that was monitored by ASP Sampene, he claimed that several Ghanaian politicians, including Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and Hon. Oppong Nkrumah, are running commentary on the establishment of 10% tax on sports betting is good because they believe that the youth are lazy therefore it will deter them from sports betting but it’s impossible
According to him , Ghanaian politicians merely go to conferences and meetings to receive their allowances. Ghanaian politicians believe that wearing suits is the work of their job . Politicians tend to overestimate the level of youth laziness in Ghana. Politicians believe that by enacting the 10% tax, the youth will cease sports betting, however this is untrue because there are no jobs in Ghana. He charged that the politicians are unwilling to help the younger generation by providing jobs.
He accused the politicians of not being willing to venture into entrepreneurship to reduce unemployment rate in Ghana.
