A leading figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, has announced that he will contest the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairmanship position.
In a brief message declaring his intention, he wrote, “I am contesting the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship position. The journey begins today. Asanteman Coka, I care.”
Appiah, widely known as COKA, is a long-time party organiser who previously served as the NPP constituency chairman for Afigya Kwabre South.
Over the years, he has been active in grassroots mobilisation within the party in the Ashanti Region.
His latest announcement signals a return to the regional chairmanship contest, a position he previously sought.
In the 2022 Ashanti Regional NPP elections, Appiah contested the chairmanship race but lost to incumbent Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
Wontumi secured 464 votes while Coka polled 306 votes in that contest.
The Ashanti Regional chairmanship is considered one of the most influential positions within the party due to the region’s role as a major electoral base for the NPP.
