General Manager of MTN-Ghana Northern Business District, Mr. Nii Adotey Mingle, has emphatically stated that no Momo user can be defrauded on Mobile Money System unless pin codes are willingly release to the unknown source .
Speaking at MTN’s 2025 Media and Stakeholders Forum held in Kumasi at the Lancaster Hotel, Mr. Adotey Mingle said, “accurate authorisation comes when you willing allow cash out ”
He urged customers to treat their MoMo PINs with the same confidentiality as the Traditional Bank PINs and warned that MTN will never call customers to request MoMo PINs or One-Time Passwords (OTPs).
According to him , Any such request, he is of the view that ,it should be treated as fraudulent act by unscrupulous persons.
On the issue of SIM card pricing, a Technical Team Member of MTN clarified that the approved amount of an MTN SIM card is Ghc 10.00
He caution consumers not to pay more than the approved price and to report vendors who charges exorbitantly to to the police.
He advised that anyone who comes across these should challenge the vendor and take steps to report them to the police,” he said.
His remarks echo MTN Ghana’s consistent position that MoMo fraud is often linked to customer negligence rather than system breaches.
Investigations into previous incidents have confirmed that fraudsters succeed mostly by convincing victims to disclose sensitive information. (OTP)
After several sensitisation, MoMo fraud remains a challenge, though measures such as the introduction of the Ghana Card for SIM registration have contributed to the reduction of fraudulent activities.
