Concrete information reaching us indicates that Kwame Sefa Kayi, popularly known as the “Chairman General” of morning radio in Ghana, has been quietly taken off air by the management of Peace FM (104.3).
Sefa Kayi, who has hosted the station’s flagship program Kokrokoo Morning Show for years, is credited with transforming it into one of the most influential and listened-to morning shows in the country. His unmatched consistency, hard-hitting interviews, and authoritative voice made Kokrokoo a household name.
However, tensions between the show and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) began to escalate in 2023, when the party announced a boycott of the program. The NDC accused the veteran broadcaster of bias and raised concerns over his continued reference to sacked former Central Regional Chairman Allotey Jacobs as a representative of the party.
In a bid to repair relations, Peace FM reportedly compelled Sefa Kayi to issue an official apology to the NDC in January 2025, following the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections. Despite the apology, the NDC declined to return to the show.
Now, sources say the station’s management has taken the bold step of permanently removing Kwame Sefa Kayi from the airwaves in an effort to win back the NDC’s participation. His long-standing seat has since been occupied by Nana Yaw Kesseh, who is expected to continue as host of Kokrokoo.
This unexpected development has stirred controversy, with elements within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) reportedly threatening to also boycott the station if Sefa Kayi is not reinstated.
Peace FM is yet to issue an official statement, but the silence is already speaking volumes. The removal of a media titan like the Chairman General is sending shockwaves through the media and political landscapes—and unless something dramatic happens, Ghana’s most iconic radio voice may have signed off for good.
