MTN has commenced its Annual Employee Volunteer Programme dubbed Y’ello Care under the theme “Education for Rural and Remote Communities – Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow”
The theme emphasizes the important role education plays in transforming our communities, strengthening socio-economic growth and prosperity, and preparing our youth with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources for the future.
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, MTN Ghana has expanded its yearly staff volunteer program, “21 Days of Y’ello Care,” into a month-long project named “30 Days of Y’ello Care.”
Commenting on this year’s 30 Days of Y’ello Care, the General Manager for Northern Business District, Mr. Nii Adortey Mingle said, ‘for those hearing about Y’ello Care for the first time, let me tell you what it is all about’.
He disclosed that, the 21 Days of Y’ello Care is an annual staff volunteer programme instituted 17 years ago to allow MTN staff across the country to volunteer their skills and services freely for the benefit of the community while investing in identified community improvement projects.
‘This is a cause close to our hearts and one that the MTN Ghana Foundation is dedicated to. We are
delighted to be able to extend our support to these remote areas through our unique and
innovative community improvement program.’ He stated
He stressed that, the 2024 edition of 30 Days of Y’ello Care campaign will significantly impact
the communities they serve, help bridge some of the educational gaps and barriers faced in the
rural communities, and ultimately help shape an equitable digital future for our country.
He outlines the benefits of this year’s project as follows
To help create the change we want to see in Ghana and across Africa, MTNers through 30
Days of Y’ello Care will help:
- Expand education systems with more infrastructure and provide resources and materials for
teachers to succeed in the classroom. - Equip deprived schools with digital tools to bridge the digital divide and improve educational
outcomes. - Empower learners with sustainable initiatives that encourage them to stay in school and
build valuable skills.
Mr. Adotey Mingle told the gathering that, the 30th anniversary and 30 Days of Y’ello Care, MTN Ghana volunteers will drill 30 Internal boreholes in Senior High Schools in a project dubbed Quench and Connect. ‘’ for our main Campaign.
He said, the boreholes will be drilled in selected schools across the 16 regions facing water crises.
In response to a question concerning the type of borehole they intend to drill, Mr. Adotey said that it will be automated, merchandised, and equipped with a chip system for tracking its functions.
‘We hope that providing these boreholes will alleviate the burden on the beneficiary schools and allow students to focus on their studies.’
Adding that, the initiatives will also include ICT-enabled programs to enhance education, the
establishment of gardens to support school feeding programs, and the organization of digital
literacy workshops to teach crucial digital skills to students and teachers.
Through these projects, we hope to improve the quality of teaching and learning in our schools.
▪ The interesting thing about Yello care is that, it has what I call a “competition for good” element in it so the winning country among 19 countries gets a cool $100,000. Isn’t that wonderful? MTN Ghana, having previously won the Y’ello Care Challenge in 2010 and 2011, is well-positioned to win the challenge for the third time as we celebrate MTN’s 30th anniversary.
He further expresses his gratitude to all MTN employees for their contributions to the success of Y’ello Care over the years, without them there would not be this initiative’.

In addition, Mr. Adortey expressed gratitude to their renowned partners for their efforts this year in guaranteeing the success of the 30 Days of Y’ello Care event in 2024.”We sincerely appreciate your support.” He continued
Some of the Ashanti region’s beneficiary schools include Church of Christ Senior High School in Ejisu Municipal, Konadu Yiadom Senior High School in Afigya Sekyere South District, and others.
The Head Master of the Church of Christ Senior High School, Emmanuel Tei Ceaser, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to MTN for their assistance.
According to him, the school was experiencing water issues, and MTN’s assistance will make things easier for them.
Mr. Richard Donkor, the representative for Konadu Yiadom Catholic Senior High School, also conveyed the school’s sincere gratitude to MTN Yello Care and requested additional assistance, using the proverb “Olive twist always ask for more.”
