Angel 96.1 FM in Kumasi has made a significant shake-up in its programming lineup with the introduction of a new weekday sports show, “Second Half Sports,” airing from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The show will be anchored by Felix Boakye Agyeman, popularly known as Quality, the station’s trusted foreign sports news presenter.
This development comes with a major change—the cancellation of the station’s popular evening sports show, “Floodlights Sports,” which previously aired from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. In its place, management has introduced a political current affairs program titled “The Platform,” hosted by seasoned journalist Nana Darkwah.
The decision has sparked discussion among listeners and media watchers in Kumasi, a city known for its vibrant sports radio culture.
The 3–4 PM slot is considered a prime time for sports content, as many sports enthusiasts are tuned in during mid-afternoon hours, especially in traffic or at work. By placing “Second Half Sports” in that slot, Angel FM may be aiming to capture a wider, more active listenership.
However, some are questioning whether scrapping the evening “Floodlights Sports” show, which had built a loyal fanbase over the years, was the right move.
The 7–9 PM window typically offers more flexibility for in-depth analysis, interviews, and post-match reactions, especially after weekday games.
While it remains to be seen how this programming shift will impact Angel FM’s ratings and audience engagement, one thing is clear: the station is repositioning itself with bold decisions aimed at refreshing its content and possibly tapping into new demographics.
